Wizjoner, Rewolucjonista Natury, Apostoł Przyrody, Robinson z Wyspy Sadlińskie Łąki – tak po latach nazywano prekursora ekologii, ornitologa samouka Paula Robiena. Robien pokochał wyspę na pograniczu Śródodrza i Jeziora Dąbie, na której zamieszkał wraz z żoną. Już przed zakończeniem wojny ten pacyfista i antyfaszysta rozpoczął współpracę z polskimi naukowcami i przyrodnikami w Warszawie. Jego obserwacje i badania ptaków przerwała tragiczna śmierć w listopadzie 1945 roku z rąk sowieckich żołnierzy.

Paul Robien was an amateur ornithologist and ecologist living in pre-war Pomerania — a land that was German then, Polish later, but always shaped by rivers, marshes, and birds.
In the 1920s, he discovered an island in the Lower Oder Valley and fell under its spell. There, he created Pomerania’s first nature reserve. With his wife Eva, he made his home on the island, remaining there through the dark years of World War II.
Long before environmental protection became a global concern, Robien fought to preserve landscapes threatened by industrial expansion and pollution. In an age driven by the urge to conquer nature, he chose to defend it instead.
